These bacteria are alive. You won't notice them when you open the bottle. The smell is neutral. We deliberately avoided using gel or coloring, as the bacteria would consume the additives, resulting in unsightly skin buildup and bulging containers. The bacteria remain stable in the solution and are in a dormant phase. They are only activated when added to the pond water.
